ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the Timber Rattlers 2-1 in ten innings. Six Fort Wayne pitchers combined to hold Wisconsin to just two hits, but the Rattlers held a 1-0 lead heading into the ninth inning. The TinCaps scored a run in the ninth to tie and a run in the tenth to win.
MANUFACTURED BY CANADA: Brett Lawrie tripled with two outs in the bottom of the first. He broke for the plate on a pitch in the dirt. The throw to the plate by catcher Adam Zornes should have gotten Lawrie for the third out, but pitcher Rob Musgrave dropped the throw and was charged with an error.
LOOKED LIKE ENOUGH: Rattler starting pitcher Wily Peralta tossed six shutout innings to earn Wisconsin’s first quality start of the season. Peralta gave up two hits, walked one, and struck out six before leaving with the 1-0 advantage.
THAT OTHER HIT: Wisconsin’s second and final hit of the game was a one out single by Erik Miller in the sixth inning. Miller has at least one hit in each of the first four games of the season. He is 6-for-14 (.429) on the young season.
JUST MISSED (PT I): Cody Adams relieved Peralta and pitched a scoreless seventh and a scoreless eighth. But, in the ninth, he walked the leadoff batter. Then, Blake Tekotte lined a double to rightcenter to drive in the tying run. Adams was 0-for-2 in save opportunities last season for Helena.
JUST MISSED (PT II): The Rattlers picked up a pair of two-out walks in the bottom of the ninth to get the winning run into scoring position. But, Zach Herr got a grounder to get out of the frame.
WALKING AWAY: The first two TinCap batters of the tenth drew walks against Rattler reliever Pedro Lambertus. A sacrifice bunt moved both of them up and a two-out infield single by Jeudy Valdez knocked in what turned out to be the winning run.
TURNING TWO: Wisconsin turned two more double plays last night. They have eight on the season.
FORT WAYNE STARTING PITCHER: RH Stiven Osuna was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in 2006. He spent two seasons in the Dominican Summer League before making his debut with the Arizona League of the Padres in 2008. He was 7-3 with a 2.18ERA in 14 starts in the Arizona League last season. Osuna struck out 57 and walked 11 in 70-1/3 innings. Tonight is Osuna’s Midwest League debut, but he has faced an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers in his career. In 2008, Osuna pitched against Milwaukee’s Arizona League affiliate twice. Osuna went 2-0 in those starts. The Brewers scored two runs on 11 hits in 11 innings against Osuna. The Padre farmhand struck out 12 Brewers and waked just one.
