ABOUT TUESDAY: The Swing of the Quad Cities beat the Rattlers 7-2 at Fox Cities Stadium. Casey Rowlett homered and knocked in three runs for the Swing. Adam Daniels struck out a career high eleven over a career high 7-2/3 innings for the win.
RATTLERS' BANE: Daniels struck out 21 and walked only two over 13-2/3 innings in two starts against Wisconsin this season. He went 1-1.
TOUGH LOSS: Rattler starting pitcher Jose Escalona allowed two runs on four hits over five innings and took the loss. Tuesday was the seventh time this season, Escalona has allowed two or fewer runs and gotten either a loss or a no decision. He is 5-3 with four no decisions when he allows two or fewer runs this season.
WALKING AWAY: Rattler reliever Harold Williams pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning, but walked a pair and gave up two runs in the seventh. Williams continues to lead the Midwest League in walks issued with 64. Kristian Bell of Lansing is in second place with 56 free passes.
INHERITENCE TAX: Edgar Guaramato entered Tuesday’s game with two runners on and two outs. He got the final out of the inning without either runner scoring. Only four inherited base runners out of twenty-four have scored when Guaramato has entered a game.
WITH HIS OWN THOUGH: Guaramato was charged with three runs allowed in the eighth inning.
TWO RUNS, NO RBI: The two Rattler runs scored in the eighth inning on Tuesday. The first came in on a passed ball. The other scored on a wild pitch.
BIG CROWD: Tuesday’s Fox Cities Stadium attendance of 5,307 was the biggest home attendance of the season for the Rattlers. The previous high had been 5,253 against the Burlington Bees on May 23.
MOVING ON UP: Rattler second baseman Luis Valbuena has been promoted to Inland Empire, the California League affiliate of the Mariners.
ON THE LIST: Rattler infielder Ron Garth has been placed on the disabled list.
MEET THE NEW GUYS: Outfielder Kevin Reynolds rejoins the Rattlers after spending time with the San Antonio Missions of the Texas League. New to the Rattlers are infielders Chris Minaker, a tenth round pick out of Stanford, and Juan Guzman, a 2005 non-drafted free agent out of Globe Technical College (NY).
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Burlington Bees are the Midwest League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. The Bees are currently 46-47 overall. They are 11-15 in the second half and in sixth place in the Western Division. Burlington is coming off a road trip that saw them go 3-4 after dropping two of three at Kane County and splitting a four game series at Fort Wayne.
VS. BURLINGTON IN ’06: The Rattlers are 2-6 against the Bees this season. The Bees went 3-1 at Fox Cities Stadium from May 20-23 and took three of four May 29-June 1 at Community Field.
PROSPECTING: BASEBALL AMERICA's Top 30 list of Royal prospects has four members of the current Burlington Bee roster on it. Outfielder Jose Duarte (#18) is joined by pitcher Chris Nicoll (#19), infielder Mario Lisson (#24), and pitcher Matt Kniginyzky (#30). Burlington has no members of the Royals 2006 draft class on their roster.
TWO FROM WISCONSIN: The Bees have two players on their roster from the Badger State. Infielder Jeremy Jirschele, a native of Clintonville, has been with the Bees all season ad was a 30th round pick in the 2005 draft out of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Pitcher Erik Cordier was a 2nd round pick in 2004 out of Southern Door High School in Brussels, resides in Sturgeon Bay.
OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Carlos Rosa was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Royals in November of 2001 out of the Dominican Republic. In his last start for Burlington, the Fort Wayne Wizards beat him at Memorial Stadium on July 14. He allowed two runs (one earned) over five innings in a 4-1 Burlington defeat. In that game he allowed just three hits, but walked four and threw two wild pitches. Rosa is 1-0 in two starts against the Rattlers this season. On May 21 at Fox Cities Stadium, he got a no decision in a 4-3 Wisconsin win in eleven innings. On May 31 at Community Field, Rosa allowed two runs on three hits with five walks and six strikeouts over five innings as the Bess picked up a 6-3 win.
