Stories about Foxes...

There have been stories the last two days about a couple of former Appleton Foxes that are worth the read.

The first is on Raul Ibanez and his season so far from the Seattle Times on Thursday:

At the well-seasoned age of 34, Ibanez is on pace to have the most productive year in his decade-long career. He is batting .285 with 20 home runs and 70 runs batted in, and he is unquestionably Seattle's best offensive threat.

The second is in USA Today this morning on Phillies closer Tom Gordon:

Gordon, 38, a private, religious man, rarely bares his soul. He's in his 18th year of pitching in the major leagues, has been an All-Star three times and won top reliever honors in the American League in 1998 when he was successful in 46 of 47 save opportunities for the Boston Red Sox. In his first season with the Phillies, he has 21 saves and a 2.17 earned-run average.

Wanting to be a role model for today's young players, he carefully chooses his words.

"God knows I'm not perfect," he says. "But just because you're in the major leagues and you have all of these temptations available to you, doesn't mean you can't have faith and morals. That's what I want to teach these young guys in the game today."
