Game Notes for 7/21

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Bees beat the Rattlers 1-0. Carlos Rosa pitched his first professional complete game shutout and Brady Everett hit a home run in the seventh inning for the only run of the game.

TOUGH LOSS: Rattler starting pitcher Marwin Vega went a career high seven innings, but took the loss. He gave up one run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. This was the second time this half that Vega was on the losing end of a shutout. He allowed five runs (two earned) over 2-2/3 innings in an 8-0 loss to the Kane County Cougars on June 23.

TEN: The Rattlers have been shutout a total of ten times this season.

1-0: Wisconsin was involved in three 1-0 games in 2005. The Rattlers won all three 1-0 games and Aaron Jensen was the winning pitcher each time that it happened in the regular season. The Rattlers topped Quad Cities 1-0 at Fox Cities Stadium on April 14, 2005 and the Beloit Snappers 1-0 at Pohlman Field on September 3, 2005. Wisconsin beat South Bend 1-0 on September 15, 2005 at Fox Cities Stadium in Game Three of the Midwest League Championship Series. Robert Rohrbaugh was the winning pitcher in that game.

DOUBLED UP: The Rattlers hit into three double plays last night.

GOING LONG: Everett’s homer was his fourth of the season. He drilled a 2-0 pitch from Vega as the lead off batter in the bottom of the seventh. The Bees have hit five homers in nine games against the Rattlers. Burlington has hit 33 homers in 94 games this season.

MULTI-BALL: Rattler first baseman Johan Limonta had a pair of hits last night. He has five multi-hit games in his first twenty-four appearances with the Rattlers.

NEW GUY AT SHORT: Chris Minaker made his Rattler debut at shortstop last night and went 1-for-4. He became the fourth Rattler to play short this season. In the first 93 games this season, either Jeff Dominguez or Robby Hudson played short. In the last four games, Hudson, Ron Garth, and Minaker have been at short.

OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Matt Kniginyzky was the 23rd round pick of the Royals in the 2005 draft out of High Point University. Kniginyzky beat the Rattlers in his only appearance against them this season. He worked seven innings and allowed one run on three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts on May 31 at Community Field in a 5-1 Burlington victory. In his last start for the Bees, Kniginyzky pitched 2-1/3 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts for a no decision in a 5-4 loss at Fort Wayne. That start against the Wizards was the first start for Kniginyzky since June 24.
