Day Four

The NCAA Division III College Baseball Championships have reached Championship Tuesday.

Monday's games:

Wisconsin-Whitewater 13, Adrian 11 (Adrian eliminated)

Johns Hopkins 12, Wisconsin-Whitewater 11 (UW-W eliminated)

JHU-UWW game story.
Great Game and some credit to the Grounds Crew!

[JHU Coach Bob Babb] was also glad for the diligence of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers grounds crew, which has been responsible for the field's upkeep throughout the double-elimination tournament.

That's because perhaps the game's key moment turned out to be a slow-rolling, pinch-hit bunt single by junior Dan Merzel on a 0-2 offering that hugged the third-base line and appeared to be headed foul but instead came to a stop in the dirt in fair territory.

That loaded the bases with nobody out and was followed by a fielder's choice force out at home before Fester's hit.

"The groundskeepers are fantastic," Babb said. "They're the only ones I've ever seen who (rake) the line and then come back over a second time so that the line is actually elevated a little bit. That might have been the difference."

Notebook.

44-0 Trinity is the focus of this story.

The Championship game is going on right now.

If Trinity wins, they are the champs. If Johns Hopkins wins, they play another game this afternoon.
