SEATTLE (MAJ: 20-34 4th American League West): The Mariners beat the Red Sox 1-0. Yuniesky Betancourt hit a home run in the third inning for the only run. Erik Bedard, Brandon Morrow, and JJ Putz (’00) combined on the two hit shutout. Bedard struck out eight over seven innings. Putz pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.
TACOMA (AAA: 26-26, 3rd Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division): The Rainiers beat Fresno 4-3. Matt Tuiasosopo (’05) doubled in two runs off Julio Mateo (’00) in the top of the ninth inning to give Tacoma a 4-0 lead. Andy Baldwin pitched seven shutout innings allowed four hits, and struck out eight for the win. Fresno scored three runs on a Nate Schierholtz homer off Tracy Thorpe. But, Thorpe got the final three outs to get Tacoma back to the .500 mark.
WEST TENNESSEE (AA: 33-20, 1st Southern League North Division): The Diamond Jaxx lost 7-3 at Mississippi. Luis Valbuena (’06) and Mike Wilson (’05) both hit solo homers for West Tennessee. But, the Diamond Jaxx could not get out of an early hole.
HIGH DESERT (High-A: 24-29, T-1st California League South Division): The Mavericks lost 3-1 at Stockton. Greg Halman (’07) had two hits and drove in a run in the top of the ninth inning to help High Desert to avoid the shutout.
