June 10 Game Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Burlington Bees beat the Rattlers 6-4. Wisconsin had their five-game winning streak ended with the loss. Burlington scored six runs in the first two innings. Pitchers Danny Duffy (5IP) and Juan Abreau (4IP) each allowed one run as they protected the lead.

FIRST OF ALL: There were two outs and a runner at third in the bottom of the first inning. Then, Rattler starting pitcher Phillippe Aumont allowed a two-run homer to Jason Taylor that put the Bees in front 2-0. That homer started a string of five straight two out hits. When the inning ended the Bees had a 4-0 advantage.

SECONDLY: Wisconsin got back into the game with a pair of unearned runs against Duffy. Denny Almonte doubled in a pair of runs to get the Rattlers to within 4-2. But, that was the last hit Duffy would allow. Plus, Burlington scored two more runs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning for a 6-2 lead.

AUMONT UPDATE: Aumont had his shortest stint as a starting pitcher last night. He lasted 1-2/3 innings and allowed six runs (all earned) on seven hits with two walks, a balk, and two strikeouts. Aumont’s ERA jumped from 1.47 to 2.62 and his two-game winning streak ended.

YEOMAN’S WORK: Three Rattler relievers – Jake Wild (3.1IP), Ryan Moorer (2IP), and Jose Escalona (IP) combined to keep the Bees after replacing Aumont.

*GOING DOWN SWINGING: Almonte drove in another run with a double in the seventh and the Rattlers got to within 6-4 with a run in the ninth. They also got the tying run to the plate, but Abreu retired Almonte on a grounder to first to end the game. In their last four losses, Wisconsin has had the tying run on base or at the plate in the eighth or ninth inning.

**WHAT’S GOIN’ ON? The Rattlers had just completed a 5-1 homestand before starting their current road trip last night with a loss. Since the beginning of a homestand on May 8, Wisconsin is 13-4 at home and 3-10 on the road. On the season, the Rattlers are 17-12 at home, but 10-19 on the road.
