Arm injury puts Kyle Parker's rise on hold — for now
He began the season throwing strikes as well as he ever has, especially with his curveball. He started 5-0 with a 3.41 earned-run average, and he was selected as the team's representative in the league's All-Star Game.
"He's throwing the ball as well as anyone we have in A ball," said Greg Hunter, the Mariners' director of player development.
But when Parker threw his first pitch in a start last Tuesday, his arm felt like he was already seven innings deep. He tired after just 1-2/3 innings, allowing seven runs before he left the game. Afterward, he discovered he had a strained muscle on the inside of his right forearm.
"It was like the muscles just locked up," said Parker, who added, "I had been getting a little tired. It just kind of caught up to me in the end."
He'll be back.
