CLOSE BEHIND: Brock Kjeldgaard had three hits, scored two runs, and drove in a run.
MULTI-BALL: Cutter Dykstra, Michael Marseco, Edgar Trejo, and Erik Miller each had a pair of hits in the game.
PITCHING, TOO: Evan Frederickson (5 IP) and Trey Watten (4IP) worked the pitching tandem well. Frederickson allowed one unearned run on three hits over five innings for the win. Watten got the save with four scoreless frames.
RACKKKKING UP THE K’S: Frederickson struck out seven Bandit batters. Watten struck out six opposing batters. Through the first two games, Wisconsin pitchers have a total of 27 strikeouts. It is very, very, very early, but that is tops in the Midwest League – by one over the West Michigan staff’s 26.
FIRST TIME? Lawrie’s homer was his first professional hit. The win for Frederickson was his first as a pro.
QUICK START: Wisconsin scored three times in the first Michael Vass drove in a run with a single. John Delaney knocked in the next run with an RBI ground out. Trejo plated the final run of the inning with a single.
AN OCTAVE: Eight of the nine Timber Rattler hitters in the starting lineup had at least one hit.
DIFFERENT NIGHTS: On Opening Night, the Timber Rattlers were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Last night, Wisconsin was 7-for-17 with runners in scoring position.
BURNING THROUGH THE BULLPEN: Quad Cities used six pitchers to get through the game last night. Miguel Tapia ad the longest outing as he went two frames.
FUN FACT #1: As a Seattle affiliate in 2008, the first time the Timber Rattlers reached double digits in runs for a single game was game #65 on June 14 – the second to last day of the first half. Wisconsin beat Clinton 10-0 at Clinton.
FUN FACT #2: The first time Wisconsin got to 10 runs at home in 2008 was on July 11 in game #84. The Rattlers lost that game 12-11 in 11 innings to Beloit.
QUAD CITIES STARTING PITCHER: RH Chuckie Fick was the 15th round pick of the Cardinals in the 2007 draft out of Cal State Northridge. He went 2-0 on two stops in the St. Louis minor league system – Johnson City in the Appalachian League and Batavia in the New York-Penn League – in his first pro season. Fick joined the River Bandits in early May of 2008 and went 6-5 in 20 games (13 starts). His last start of the 2008 season was on August 30 at Modern Woodmen Park against the Timber Rattlers. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings to earn the victory. Fick walked one and struck out six in that game. He pitched a total of 93-2/3 innings for Quad Cities last season and struck out 67 with just 15 walks.
