Midwest League Action: Games of April 13, 2009

Complete scoreboard here. By complete, I mean two games and five rainouts.

Fort Wayne 2, @Wisconsin 1 (10 innings): "Realistically, we haven't been hitting the ball extremely well. We've been putting it into play a little bit and scratching runs here and there and taking advantage of mistakes. … But when you go out there and walk the leadoff guy in the ninth and the leadoff guy in the 10th, that's where the game was lost right there."

@Great Lakes 4, West Michigan 2: Justin Miller started his second consecutive home opener for the Loons Monday night at Dow Diamond. And for the second consecutive home opener, the Loons picked up a Midwest League victory, winning Monday night 4-2 over the West Michigan Whitecaps.

See a little video of Loooooooooons fans getting ready for Opening Day here from the Midland Daily News.

Everything else...rained out.

Beloit @ Quad Cities: "We're ready for a little sunshine," said River Bandits general manager Kirk Goodman, who also had weather cancel his team's preseason exhibition with Double-A Springfield on April 5.

Burlington @ Kane County: A few hundred fans waited through a 49-minute delay added to the original 3 p.m. first pitch time. It proved to be a drier endeavor than years past, as a covered concourse highlighted a $10.5 million offseason Elfstrom Stadium renovation project.

Lansing @ South Bend: “It’s all about getting the fans in the stands and making sure it’s a good environment,” South Bend manager Mark Haley said. “I know it’s April, it’s tough. It would be tough to play (Monday). There’s no sense in pushing it. It’s a little rough, just coming out of spring training, to put our players in this environment. We felt it was best for the players an everybody else.”

Cedar Rapids @ Clinton: Rain and cold temperatures put a quick end to the 2009 Home Opener for the Clinton LumberKings. The originally-scheduled 6:30 PM game tonight against the Cedar Rapids Kernels has been postponed.

Dayton @ Peoria: The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday at O’Brien with a pair of seven-inning games....Have fun with that.
