June 20, 2009: Tonight's Starting Pitchers

GAME ONE STARTER

RHP ALEX PERIARD: Selected by Milwaukee in the 16th round of the 2004 draft out of Polyvalente Deux Montagnes High School in Deux Montagnes, Quebec.

DOWN IN THE DESERT: Periard pitched for the Arizona League Brewers in 2005 and 2006. In those two seasons, he was 3-2 with two saves over 24 games (eight starts). Periard struck out 47 and walked 28 in 71 innings.

OFF TO WEST VIRGINIA: Periard pitched for the West Virginia Power in 2007 and was 7-7 with two saves in 23 games (18 starts).

THE 2008 SEASON: Periard split his 2008 season between the Florida State League and the Southern League. He started last year with the Brevard County Manatees and was 9-6 with a 3.51ERA over 19 games (18 starts). In late July, Periard was promoted to Huntsville and was 2-4 in eight starts with a 5.68ERA.

LAST APPEARANCE: Periard made the start at Burlington on June 15. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits over three innings. He did not walk a batter, struck out one, and was not involved in the decision, a 7-4 Timber Rattlers win.

RATED: Baseball America placed Periard at #13 on their list of Milwaukee Brewers prospects heading into the 2009 season.

2009 DEBUT: The start at Burlington was Perirard’s first appearance in a game this season.


VS. KANE COUNTY: Periard has never faced the Cougars.

VS. OAKLAND: Periard has faced an Oakland affiliate four times in his career. In 2005, he started against the Arizona League Athletics and went two innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, five walks, and one strikeout for a no decision. In 2006, Periard pitched three times in relief against the AZL Athletics, was 0-1, allowed 10 runs (six earned) on 12 hits, walked six and struck out seven over 8-2/3 innings.

GAME TWO STARTER

LHP EVAN FREDERICKSON: Selected by Milwaukee as a supplemental first round pick (35th overall) in the 2008 draft out of the University of San Francisco.

THE DON: Frederickson transferred to the University of San Francisco for his junior season. He was 5-3 with a 4.54 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) for the Diamond Dons. Frederickson walked 61 batters and struck out 109 over 75-1/3 innings for USF.

THE HOKIE: Frederickson began his college career at Virginia Tech. He compiled a 2-4 record and struck out 68 batters in 56-2/3 innings for the Hokies.

MY OLD SCHOOL: Frederickson was a two-time First Team All-Region and All-District selection as a high school player for Oakton (VA) High.

NOT A TWIN: The Minnesota Twins drafted Frederickson with a selection in the 27th round of the 2005 draft. He did not sign.

RATED: Baseball America ranked Frederickson as the #24 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewer organization before the 2009 season.

LAST SEASON: Frederickson began his pro career with three starts for Helena, the Pioneer League affiliate of the Brewers. He had no record, walked five and struck out 16 over 11-2/3 innings. Frederickson was promoted to West Virginia and wrapped up his season with the Power in the South Atlantic League by going 0-1 over nine games (four starts) with a 6.20 ERA. He struck out 18 and walked 26 in 20-1/3 innings for the Power

LAST START: Frederickson beat the Beloit Snappers on June 9 at Time Warner Cable Field. He allowed one run on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts over six innings for the victory.

LAST APPEARANCE: Frederickson pitched three innings in relief on June 14. He allowed one run on two hits with no walks and a pair of strikeouts.

VS. KANE COUNTY: Frederickson has never faced the Cougars before tonight.

VS. OAKLAND: Frederickson has not faced and affiliate of the Oakland Athletics before tonight.
