Midwest League Action: Games of June 17, 2009

Complete scoreboard:

@Burlington 8, Wisconsin 6: "It's kind of like hitting's contagious and that was the case right there," said Fontaine, who was 3-for-4 with three RBI. "It was a lot of fun to be a part of. Just putting together consecutively some good at-bats, everything happened kind of like a snowball effect. We were finding holes.

Kane County 11 @Cedar Rapids 3: You didn’t see this coming. The bet was the Cedar Rapids Kernels would use momentum gained from a walk-off, 14th-inning win Tuesday night and vault past Kane County into first place alone in the Midwest League’s Western Division. It didn’t come close to materializing like that Wednesday afternoon.

Bonus Midwest League Playoff Tiebreaker information:
The top two teams in the division clinch a playoff berth. All the Kernels have to do to is split their remaining four games to finish ahead of Clinton, since Cedar Rapids would have the tiebreaker of a better head-to-head record. Kane County has the tiebreaker when it comes to head to head against Cedar Rapids and Clinton.
Great Lakes 4 @South Bend 0;
Great Lakes 2 @South Bend 1: Runs were as scarce as $3 bills Wednesday for the South Bend Silver Hawks.

Fort Wayne 12 @West Michigan 2: The good news: West Michigan clinched a Midwest League Eastern Division playoff berth Wednesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. The bad news: They did it on a night when they were pounded by the Fort Wayne TinCaps 12-2.

Lansing 12 @Dayton 7: Dragons pitchers J.C. Sulbaran and Andrew Bowman said they weren’t trying to hit Lansing batters Wednesday night, June 17. Home plate umpire Matt Neuhold decided they were, ejecting each during a 12-7 Lugnuts rout of Dayton at Fifth Third Field in a battle of teams trying to stay out of last place in the Midwest League’s East Division. Go. Read all of it.

Clinton 4 @Beloit 4: LumberKings version | Snappers version

@Peoria 7, Quad Cities 3: The Chiefs have won nine straight games at home — the longest single-season winning streak in O’Brien Field history — by sweeping the past two series. ... Harrison extended his hitting streak to six games with a single in the third.
