Midwest League Action: Games of June 25, 2009

Complete scoreboard

@Wisconsin 4, Peoria 1: “All of it was with two outs, and one thing we’ve been talking about as a club is we need to get more productivity with two outs,” Rattlers manager Jeff Isom said. “It was nice to see. Because that’s what we’re going to have to do if we’re going to have success in the second half. We’re going to have to have some big hitting with two outs.

Bonus excerpt, because I know there are probably a few questions...
Delaney OK
[John] Delaney was forced out of the game in the fourth when he was plunked in the head on an offering from Chiefs starter Justin Bristow. Afterward, Isom deemed his third baseman “fine” and said his departure was strictly precautionary.

“It hit off his helmet and kind of grazed off his cheek a little bit,” Isom said. “Anytime you’ve got a head issue, a guy getting hit in the head, they take that pretty serious.”
@West Michigan 4, Great Lakes 0: Rust? What rust? After a three-day all-star break, the West Michigan Whitecaps excelled on the mound, at the plate and in the Fifth Third Ballpark field Thursday night in a 4-0 win against the Great Lakes Loons.

@Fort Wayne 8, South Bend 4: “The kids came out, and it looked like they didn’t miss a beat,” TinCaps manager Doug Dascenzo said. “We didn’t say anything to them. We looked up on the board and saw the record was 0-0. We knew we had a game to play, and they went out and played it.”

@Lansing 6, Dayton 5: Matt Daly would be just fine with the rest of the Lansing Lugnuts games playing out like their last one. Daly struck out three batters in the ninth inning Thursday - the last with most of the 7,812 fans at Oldsmobile Park on their feet and cheering him on - as he picked up his 13th save in 14 tries for a 6-5 win against Dayton.

Kane County 12 @Quad Cities 3: The start of the second half of the Midwest League season had an all-too familiar storyline for the Quad-Cities River Bandits. "I think I've seen that one before," manager Steve Dillard said after watching first-half Western Division champion Kane County hand his team a 12-3 Midwest League loss Thursday at Modern Woodmen Park.

@Clinton 7, Beloit 2: “Before the game Coach Steinmann told us to treat every at bat like a brick of gold,” Savastano said, “and I didn’t want them to take my gold bar away.” (Editors Comment: Coach Steinmann?)

@Burlington 9, Cedar Rapids 4: Burlington's last game was June 21, a victory at Peoria. Four players headed to Clinton for the All-Star Game. The remainder enjoyed some time away from the field, enjoying their time doing nothing. "Sleep. Eat. And go to FunCity swimming pool. That's it," said Bees catcher Jose Bonilla, who was 2-for-4 with a home run. "Back home and sleep again. Then worked out (Wednesday)."
