Midwest League Action: Games of April 16, 2010

Complete scoreboard

WEST:

Wisconsin 9 @Burlington 0: "I sat there and watched, laid back, watched what was going on, just kept looking at the scoreboard, watching. Just sat and relaxed," Odorizzi said. "There was no stress at all. Everyone was just kind of chilled out." (Ed. Note: Um, Jake is from Illinois, right? Is there a big surfing community in Highland?)

@Clinton 11, Quad Cities 10 (11 innings): Kalian Sams would like to make a habit out of this. For the second Friday in a row, Sams hit a walk-off home run, this one capping a thrilling comeback that ended in an 11-10 victory over the rival Quad Cities River Bandits in an 11-inning game at Alliant Energy Field. It also capped a three-homer game for Sams... (Ed. note: They may want to correct that headline for this article: Smith's third home run is another Friday walk-off shot for L'Kings)

Beloit 6 @Kane County 0: The ninth inning started with it looking like the Cougars might get a chance at squeaking out another close one a night after beating Beloit in their final at-bat. But two-run and three-run homers in the top of the frame by Beloit’s Michael Gonzales and Josmil Pinto quickly turned a one-run game into a 6-0 loss for the Cougars Friday night to wrap up a three-game series that tipped the Snappers way in the rubber match.

Peoria 7 @Cedar Rapids 4: Dueling Headlines...Peoria Version: Bour Doubles Chiefs to 7-4 Friday Win...Cedar Rapids Version: Defense struggles in 7-4 loss to Chiefs

EAST:

Lake County 6 @Lansing 3 (10 innings): Lugnuts manager Sal Fasano stood in the Lansing clubhouse, expressing frustration. Sometimes in baseball, he explained, it seems the opposing team finds the holes and gets the breaks when your team can't buy either. (Ed. Note: Lake County is 9-0 to start the season)

Dayton 10 @Fort Wayne 5: Dexter Carter’s first pitch Friday went to the backstop. It was a sign of the wild night to come for TinCaps pitchers.

West Michigan 9 @Bowling Green 4 (11 innings): Bowling Green (3-6) wasted an impressive start from Wilking Rodriguez, who went six strong innings, as the bullpen allowed West Michigan (4-5) to tie it in the seventh and win it in extra innings.

@Great Lakes 4, South Bend 2: "Obviously, the win's the most important part," [Austin] Yount said. "It was great to get the rally started. And the first (hit of the season) can sometimes be the toughest, so it was nice to get that out of the way." (Ed. Note: South Bend is 0-9 to start the season).

Regarding your editor's note:

The Silver Hawks were also 0-9 to start 2008, the year they went to the Midwest League Finals.

Here's hoping that history repeats itself.
