May 6, 2010: Game Notes

ABOUT WEDNESDAY: The Rattlers won the completion of Tuesday’s suspended game 9-7. Quad Cities won the regularly scheduled game 10-9 in seven innings.

GAME ONE RECAP: Wisconsin scored six runs in the seventh inning to snap a 2-2 tie. Kyle Heckathorn struck out five over four innings for the win. Wisconsin led 8-2 but held off a furious Quad Cities comeback for the win. Andre Lamontagne got the final three outs o the season for his first save. Scooter Gennett, Khris Davis, Cameron Garfield, and Franklin Romero each had two RBI in the game for Wisconsin.

GAME TWO RECAP: The Rattlers led 8-1 after the bottom of the fourth inning after scoring three runs in the first, four in the second, and one more in the fourth. The River Bandits rallied with one run in the fifth, four in the sixth, and four more in the tenth. Jason Stidham drove in four runs, Niko Vasquez and Ryde Rodriguez each drove in three for Quad Cities.

FIRST OF MANY, MANY MORE: Kyle Heckathorn picked up his first professional victory in the completion of Tuesday’s game. Heckathorn also set a professional career high for strikeouts in a game with five.

WHAT AN INNING: The Rattlers scored six runs in the seventh inning of the suspended game. That is the most runs scored by the Rattlers in a single inning since the team scored seven in an inning at Cedar Rapids on June 24, 2008.

A VERY GOOD DAY: Rattlers left fielder Khris Davis was 5-for-8 in the two games. He was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI in game one. In game two, Davis went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a homer, two runs, and two RBI. Davis is 10-for-18 (.556) with two homers eight runs and six RBI in his last five games.

MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH: No Appleton professional baseball player has hit for the cycle since the franchise became the Timber Rattlers in 1995. Davis had a single, homer, and double in his first three at bats of the second game yesterday. His double in the sixth inning gave him his second 4-hit game of the season.

12 ANGRY MEN: In game two, Timber Rattlers pitchers walked 11 and hit one batter. Seven of the walks came after there were two outs in an inning. The hit batsman happened in the sixth inning with the bases loaded to force in a run.

EJECT! EJECT! EJECT! Quad Cities had a pair of ejections in the second game. Manager Johnny Rodriguez was ejected in the fifth inning after disagreeing with a check swing that was called for a strike against Stidham. Devin Shepherd was tossed after he was called out on strikes to end the top of the sixth.

2010 SEASON SERIES: Wisconsin is 2-3 against Quad Cities this season. The River Bandits beat the Rattlers twice in a three game series at Modern Woodmen Park April 17-19. Quad Cities won the first two games by scores of 9-5 and 4-3. Wisconsin won the finale 9-5

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The Timber Rattlers are hitting .272 as a team. They have scored 141 runs (5.4/game) and hit 14 home runs. The River Bandits are hitting .247 as a team. They have scored 137 runs (5.1/game) and hit 18 home runs. Wisconsin pitchers have a team ERA of 5.14 while allowing a total of 149 runs (5.7/game) this season. Quad Cities pitchers have a team ERA of 4.20 while allowing 132 runs (4.9/game). The Rattlers defense has committed 49 errors. The Bandits defense has committed 41 errors. Wisconsin is 6-7 at Time Warner Cable Field this season. Quad Cities is 7-7 on the road this season.

QUAD CITIES STARTING PITCHER: RHP Jorge Rondon was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in 2006. He has pitched for the River Bandits in 2008 and 2009. Prior to 2010, Rondon had appeared in 74 games (22 starts) with a 5-15 record, five saves, and a 4.86ERA. In his appearance prior to tonight, Rondon pitched 4-1/3 innings of relief against Burlington on May 1. He gave up one run on two hits with four walks and no strikeouts. Rondon has made five appearances (two starts) for the River Bandits this season and he has a 1-0 record with a 1.47ERA. Rondon made three relief appearances totaling 2-2/3 innings against Wisconsin in 2008. He allowed one run and picked up a win. His only appearances against a Brewers affiliate were in 2009. Rondon faced the Brevard County Manatees three times last season. He had no record and allowed two runs on six hits over 8-1/3 innings with eight strikeouts.
