...the Mariners opted to go with Shin-Shoo Choo to fill in for (Jeremy) Reed, who broke his right thumb trying to make a diving catch on Sunday and likely will miss between four and six weeks.
Why Choo? The choice was pretty simple, according the general manager Bill Bavasi.
"We went with the hot bat in Triple-A," Bavasi said of Choo, who was hitting .327 with the Rainiers but .452 in his last 24 games.
At the writing of this post Choo (WI '02) had a double and was 1-for-3 in Monday's game against the Angels.
Choo was 1-for-18 in ten games for the Mariners in 2005.
In a chain reaction, Adam Jones has been named as a replacement for Choo at the 2006 Triple-A ALl-Star Game at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio.
