April 10, 2010: Game Notes

GAME ONE RECAP: Scooter Gennett’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the winning run as Wisconsin won the first game of the doubleheader 3-2.

GAME TWO RECAP: Wisconsin scored four times in the bottom of the third inning to wipe out an early deficit on the way to a 6-3 win and a doubleheader sweep in game two.

STARTING STRONG: D’Vontrey Richardson singled to start the bottom of the first in game one. He came into score on a two-out single by Cameron Garfield.

FIGHTING BACK: Kane County took a 2-1 lead with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Rattler DH Chris Dennis knocked home the tying run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning to set up Gennett’s game-winner in the seventh.

EFFICIENT: Jon Pokorny entered game one in the top of the seventh inning with the score tied. He struck out the side in order and got the win when the Rattlers scored in the bottom of the inning.

LIVING ON THE EDGE: Nick Bucci was the game two starter for the Timber Rattlers. He walked five in three innings and the team committed a pair of errors behind him. Yet, Kane County managed only two runs off Bucci in the game.

FROM THE LITTLEST ACORN: Carlos George struck out for what should have been the third out of the bottom of the second inning in game two. However, the ball got to the backstop and George reached. Franklin Romero, Jr. tripled in George to get Wisconsin on the board.

FOUR! Wisconsin scored four times in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead. In 2009, the Rattlers scored more than four runs in an inning just two times.

HIRAM: Rattlers reliever Hiram Burgos worked four innings of relief in game two and struck out six for the win. He did not allow a hit until back-to-back doubles in the top of the ninth.

KANE COUNTY STARTING PITCHER: RHP Dan Straily was Oakland’s 24th round pick in the 2009 draft. He was selected out of Marshall. IN his final season with the Thundering Herd, Straily went 4-3 with a 4.27ERA in 13 games. He spent his first pro season with Vancouver, Oakland’s Northwest League affiliate. He was 5-3 with a 4.19ERA in 16 games (11 starts) with the Canadians. Straily struck out 66 and walked 18 in 59 innings with Vancouver. Today is his first appearance against the Rattlers and against an affiliate of the Brewers.
