Seattle (MAJ: 20-25; 3rd AL West): The Mariners beat San Diego 10-8 for a sweep at Safeco Field. Felix Hernandez (WI ’03) gave up seven runs on seven hits over six innings for his third win. Former Appleton Fox Raul Ibanez hit a three run home run as part of an eight run second inning. JJ Putz (WI ’00) pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.
Tacoma (AAA – 20-21; 3rd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma lost 10-1 at Nashville. Cesar Jimenez (WI ’03) gave up five runs on five hits and five walks over 2-1/3 innings for the loss. TJ Bohn (WI ’03) drove in the only run for the Rainiers.
San Antonio (AA – 16-24; 4th Texas League South Division): San Antonio beat Corpus Christi 11-3. Bryan LaHair (WI ’04) had three hits, including a homer, and three RBI to help the Missions to the win. Wladimir Balentien (WI ’04) chipped in with his second homer in two days. Plus, there was a bit of a brawl.
Inland Empire (High-A – 24-19; 2nd California League South Division): Inland Empire edged Rancho Cucamonga 5-4. Brian Schweiger (WI ’06) had three hits, and an RBI. Mark Lowe (WI ’05) made his first start off the DL and all three batters he faced scored. Cibney Bello got the win in relief by going six scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and striking out ten.
