Seattle (MAJ: 22-32; 4th AL West): The Mariners lost 6-4 at Texas. Gil Meche (WI ’98) was staked to a 3-0 lead, but gave up six runs in the bottom of the third. Brad Wilkerson hit a grand slam for the Rangers in that big inning. Carl Everett had three hits and drove in a run for Seattle.
Tacoma (AAA – 25-25; 3rd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma lost 15-14 at Salt Lake. Renee Cortez (WI ’03) walked in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Bobby Livingston (WI ’03) gave up eleven runs on ten hits over 2-1/3 innings, to put the Rainiers into an 11-3 hole. But, the Rainiers charged back to tie the game 14-14. Asdrubal Cabrera (WI ’05) went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and a home run for Tacoma. Adam Jones (WI ’04) hit his eighth homer of the season for the Rainiers.
San Antonio (AA – 19-30; 4th Texas League South Division): San Antonio beat Tulsa 4-1. Bryan LaHair (WI ’04) drove in a pair of runs for the Missions. Stephen Kahn (WI ’05) pitched two scoreless innings in relief of winning pitcher Adam Pettyjohn. Pettyjohn struck out six over six scoreless innings for the win.
Inland Empire (High-A – 31-20; 1st California League South Division): Inland Empire had their nine game winning streak end with a 2-1 loss to Visalia. Ivan Blanco (WI ’05) gave up a pair of unearned runs over seven innings and got the loss. Brent Johnson (WI ’05) had a pair of hits and scored the only run for the 66ers.
