Memories

A big "Thank you" to whomever had the radio turned on at C.O. Brown Stadium today.

While setting up the computer and getting the stats ready and all that stuff, I hear the call letters of the station, WRKR.

I haven't heard those call letters since I was a Knight at this school in my hometown.

WRKR in Racine was the station of my youth. It has changed quite a bit since then.

Something interesting popped up on Google while looking for further memory jogs on WRKR.

WRKR-FM, Racine, Wisconsin
September 1977 to March 1978Reunited with some old Top 40 friends, WRKR saw the debut of Joe's first album-feature program "Benson Onna Sunday Night." Only one other jock survived from that version of WRKR: Big Marty still reigns in Las Vegas!

And a little further down the page...

WSUP-FM, Platteville, Wisconsin
August 1970 to May 1973The University of Wisconsin - Platteville featured a very ambitious radio and TV program that Joe fit right into. No peculiar show names were used for his regular Saturday, then Monday night programs — although his best friends Road Runner and Warthog made regular appearances on their "Uncle's" radio show. The range of music spanned from Deep Purple, Little Feat and Alice Cooper to early Pink Floyd and Genesis.

WSUP is where I started to really get into the whole radio thing. It seems to have worked out so far.

Enough of memory lane. Game starts in an hour and WRKR just went from Breakdown by Tom Petty into Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who. I think there is time for a little air guitar.
