July 5: River Bandits stop Chiefs' win streak at 11
Prospects might also become bait
While the Peoria Chiefs are playing their best regular-season ball in the 25-plus years of the franchise, their parent Chicago Cubs are looking for their first World Series title in 100.
To that end the immediate needs of the Cubs could have an effect on the current Chiefs, to say nothing of those that passed through O'Brien Field in the past few years.
The Chiefs success over the past month and half, except for an 0-5 start to the second half, has been because the Cubs have done so well.
"Being good in one sense helps that we don't have to push these (prospects) through the system," Cubs scouting director Tim Wilken said last month while visiting O'Brien Field to assess the organization.
