ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Timber Rattlers lost 4-1 to the Kernels. Tyler Chatwood tossed 6-2/3 scoreless innings for his third win over Wisconsin this season. The loss snapped Wisconsin’s four game winning streak.
NEMESIS: Chatwood is 3-0 against the Timber Rattlers this season. In 18-1/3 innings he has not allowed a run. Last night he gave up two hits, walked four and struck out six. In his three outings against the Rattlers this season, Chatwood has allowed six hits, walked 12, and struck out 19.
ALL HE REQUIRED: The Kernels gave Chatwood a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Rattlers starter Trey Watten walked the leadoff batter. Gabe Jacobo followed with an RBI triple. An RBI grounder off the bat of Matt Crawford made it 2-0. Crawford made it 3-0 with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the fourth.
QUALITY: Watten pitched seven innings, allowed three runs (two earned), walked one, and struck out six for a quality start.

RED HOT AUGUST: Brock Kjeldgaard drove in the only Timber Rattlers run with a single in the eighth inning. That single extended his current hitting streak to ten games. He is 16-for-41 (.390) during this streak. He now has the longest hitting streak on the team this season. Kjeldgaard has hit safely in 18 of 20 games this month. In August, he is 29-for-81 (.358) and has raised his average from .213 to .242.
MAKING MOVES: Earlier today, the Milwaukee Brewers announced a pair of roster moves for the Timber Rattlers. Catcher Corey Kemp has been transferred to Huntsville, the Southern League affiliate of the Brewers. Catcher Derrick Alfonso joins the Timber Rattlers tonight from Brevard County, the Florida State League affiliate of the Brewers.
A NOTE ABOUT ATTENDANCE: The crowd of 4,413 for last night’s Timber Rattlers game pushed the season attendance for Wisconsin to 228,137 for an average of 3,621. The franchise record for single season attendance is 233,797. If the Rattlers just draw their average attendance of the last 5 home games they will have a total attendance of 246,242.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Cedar Rapids Kernels are the Midwest League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They are in the Midwest League playoffs as the first half Western Division Wild Card after finishing the first half with a record of 40-30 and edging out Clinton for the spot with a tiebreaker. The Kernels are 29-25 in the second half.
SEASON SERIES: The Rattlers are 6-8 against the Kernels in 2009. Wisconsin went 2-6 against Cedar Rapids in the first half, including 1-3 in a four game series at Time Warner Cable Field in early June. The Rattlers took three out of four from the Kernels at Perfect Game Field August 11 through August 14.
COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The Timber Rattlers are hitting .240 as a team. They have scored 498 runs (4.0/game) and hit 58 home runs. The Kernels are hitting .254 as a team. CEDAR RAPIDS STARTING PITCHER: RHP Manaurys Correa was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2007. Last season, Correa pitched for the Arizona League affiliate of the Angels and the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League. He was 7-1 in 15 games (12 starts) overall in 2008. He struck out 67 batters in 57-2/3 innings for the Mesa Angels. Correa is 6-9 with a 4.76 ERA in 24 starts for the Kernels this season. He has lost his last four decisions. In his start before tonight, Correa allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings at Clinton on August 17 for a loss. Correa has made two starts against the Timber Rattlers in 2009. On June 3 at Time Warner Cable Field, Correa allowed one run on four hits over eight innings and got the win. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. On August 12 in Cedar Rapids, he took the loss as he gave up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits over four innings. Correa has pitched two complete games, including a 9-inning shutout this season. He leads the Midwest League in innings pitched with 140. Correa has also allowed 16 home runs this season, tied with three other pitchers for the most given up by a Midwest League pitcher this season.
