Seattle (MAJ: 11-15; 4th AL West): The Mariners beat Baltimore 4-3. Jamie Moyer gave up a pair of home runs, but got his first win of the season. Carl Everett drove in a pair of runs, JJ Putz (WI ’00) worked 1-1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Eddie Guardado pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.
Tacoma (AAA – 13-9; 2nd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma split a pair of games with Salt Lake. In the completion of the suspended game from Saturday, the Rainiers won 4-2. Cesar Jimenez (WI ’03) struck out six and allowed one run on three hits over five innings, but received a no decision. Rich Dorman (WI ’03) got the win and Emiliano Fruto (WI ’02) picked up the save. Tacoma trailed 2-0 heading to the bottom of the eighth and rallied for four runs. Rob Johnson (WI ’05), Adam Jones (WI ’04), and Greg Dobbs (WI ’02) all had RBI in the game-winning rally. In game two, Cha Seung Baek (WI ’00) pitched well, but the bullpen could not hold the lead and the Bees won 4-3 in extra innings. Baek gave up three hits and two runs in six innings for a no decision. Jones had a pair of hits and an RBI in game two. Make sure to read how the sun played a role in helping the Rainiers tie up game two on a grounder back to the pitcher.
San Antonio (AA – 9-14; 4th Texas League South Division): Springfield beat San Antonio 9-7 to spoil a great day for Jeff Clement (WI ’05). Clement went 5-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI. After the top of the third, Springfield led 7-1 and the Missions rallied to tie the game. However, Springfield scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth for the win.
Inland Empire (High-A – 13-10; T-1st California League South Division): The 66ers lost 3-2 to Visalia. Chris Colton (WI ’05) drove in one of the runs for the 66ers.
