Midwest League News & Notes

Look who might be coming back to the Midwest League.

Former overall No. 1 pick may come back - as pitcher

Matt Bush, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 draft, is likely headed back to the Wizards in two weeks, according to Grady Fuson, San Diego’s vice president of scouting and player development. This time, he’ll return as a pitcher.

“The plan all along was once we got him on the mound and once we saw where he was from a delivery standpoint and a command standpoint, we thought this would be the place he would kick it off,” said Fuson, who was in attendance for Wednesday’s game at Memorial Stadium.

Odd jobs and Myron Noodleman helped Bobby Livingston?

Parker cleans shoes, while Noodleman brings good luck

Dragons first baseman Logan Parker's hand-written note on the clubhouse bulletin board advertised he would clean anyone's cleats for $2 a pair.

When there were no takers, he lowered the price to $1. So far, shortstop Zack Cozart and pitcher Kevin Gunter are his clients.
...
Noodleman said he performed with outfielder (and former Dragons player) Cody Strait in Sarasota last year, and Strait hit a home run. Last week, he worked with pitcher Bobby Livingston at Louisville, the day before Livingston was recalled to the Reds.

Myron, the good luck charm. Maybe he can work that into his act.

This will turn your week around.

Whitecaps welcome 6 millionth fan

Dorothy Metzler, who cringes whenever she is advised to slow down, definitely is on a roll.

The 89-year-old Grand Haven woman escaped serious injury when she was involved in an accident that totaled her car, then collected $300 playing bingo Monday.

But walking away from an accident without a scratch and padding the bank account took a back seat to her first West Michigan Whitecaps game Tuesday at Fifth Third Ballpark.

She carted home more than $1,000 worth of prizes after being named the 6 millionth fan in the Whitecaps' 14-year history. The loot included a digital camera, a microwave, a George Foreman grill, a blender, a fondue pot, a vacuum and two tickets to the upcoming Counting Crows concert at Fifth Third Ballpark.

"It's been a lucky week," Metzler said. "I can't wait for what's going to happen next."

Your going to a Counting Crows concert, nanna. That's what is happening next!

There is a Leminari on Zeta Reticulon IV who may disagree with the youngster in our next story.

'Luckiest person in the universe'

SOUTH BEND -- Bobby Wantuch, 11, received some bad news Monday.

He has to wear glasses from now on.

"He was a little bummed about it," his father, Bobby Wantuch Sr., said.

But Bobby's day took a 180-degree turn when he became the 4 millionth minor league baseball fan to enter Coveleski Stadium.

It didn't take anyone's glasses after that to see the big smile Bobby cracked when he was congratulated and handed balloons at the turnstile. He was the 429th fan to walk through the gates Monday. He lifted his arms in the air like he had just delivered the game-winning hit in the seventh game of the World Series.

"I feel like I'm the luckiest person in the universe because I won," the South Bend boy said. "I'm surprised because I never won anything before."

Think he'll ever win anything again?

Too dark?
