Notebooks

The Victor Valley Daily Press has their Mavs Notebook. Entries include Michael Saunders playing in front of 40,000 in the Futures Game and Andy Hargrove playing in front of his father:

“It really makes you strive to get to that point again,” Saunders said.

"When you play in that type of atmosphere in front of 40,000 people, in a ball game of that type where most of those guys could end up being superstars in the big leagues, it’s just something to strive for. It’s always been my goal to play in the big leagues, but I never knew what it would be like. Now I do.”
...
“It was awesome (Friday night),” Hargrove said. “When I hit that home run, coming around and going back to the dugout my mom, my wife Lori and my dad were sitting right there. I looked at him and tried to give him a smile and wink and he had a smile on his (face).”

The Dayton Daily News has this in their Dragon Notes:
Eastlake, Lexington may have a future in Midwest League

Some day, Eastlake (outside Cleveland) and Lexington, Ky., might be in the Midwest League, but it won't be a quick process.

"We talked about this four years ago," said MWL president George Spelius, visiting Fifth Third Field Sunday night. "It's going to take somebody to push the button."
...
If Eastlake and Lexington joined the MWL, it would even up the divisions. At the moment, eight teams play in the West and only six in the East. The MWL has teams in six states, but the states are contiguous.

Spelius said he thinks Eastlake would love to be in the MWL, but Lexington is resisting. Eastlake is a farm team of the Indians; Lexington's with the Astros.

Nice use of the word contiguous, Marc.

The Midwest League Notebook is available. Here is the latest on Beloit, the next opponent for the Rattlers:

SO FAR THIS SEASON: The Snappers are 11-10 in the second half and are in a third-place tie with Burlington in the Western Division.

WHO'S HOT: LHP Tyler Robertson ranked first among league pitching leaders last week with his performance on Saturday. He scattered four hits and struck out five batters over 7 2/3 solid innings in a 2-1, 11-inning loss to West Michigan. In nine games -- eight starts -- this season, he is 3-2 with a measly 1.94 ERA with 54 strikeouts and just 18 walks.

WHO'S NOT: RHP Matthew Fox (5-1, 3.19 ERA) lasted just 1 2/3 innings in the Snappers' 9-4 loss to Quad Cities July 8, surrendering eight runs on five hits and two walks in his shortest outing of the season.

SAVES A LOT: After breaking the Snappers' all-time save record July 7 with his 28th of the season in the Snappers' 5-4 win over Quad Cities, closer Rob Delaney was promoted to Class A Advanced Fort Myers Wednesday. Before the move, Delaney surpassed Chris Burt (1995) and Pat Fetty (1992), who previously held the record with 27 saves.
