ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The game was suspended with the Timber Rattlers leading the Great Lakes Loons 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Carlos Peguero’s one out fly ball to left was lost in the rain and lights and dropped in for his second double of the game. The umpires called for the tarp after a conference with each manager and suspended the game about thirty minutes later.
TWO OUT RALLIES: The Rattlers scored all three of their runs after there were two out and none on base. Alex Liddi singled with two outs in the first inning and scored on Peguero’s double off the centerfield wall. Juan Beltran reached on a two-out error in the third. Gavin Dickey followed with a walk. Calvin Beamon drove in both runners with a single.
SHORT START: Rattler starting pitcher Tony Butler went three innings and gave up one run on four hits with two walks and a pair of strikeouts.
RESTART: The game will be picked up at the point where it was suspended on Saturday, July 28 at 4:35pm. The game will be played to its completion. A seven-inning game will follow the end of the suspended game.
AROUND THE DIAMOND: Leury Bonilla had three hits on Tuesday night and played right field. Bonilla played in three games of the series at three different positions against the Silver Hawks. He played short on Sunday and went 2-for-3. Bonilla was the third baseman for the Rattlers on Monday and he was 2-for-3. In Thursday’s game, Bonilla started at second base.
OPPOSING STARTER: James Adkins was the 39th player taken in the 2007 draft. The Dodgers picked him after his junior season at the University of Tennessee. Adkins was 7-7 in 17 starts with a 2.80 ERA and 134 strikeouts over 122 innings pitched in that final year with Tennessee. Adkins holds the career strikeout record for the Volunteers with 380 in 355-1/3 innings pitched. He made his pro debut with a scoreless inning against Burlington on July 13. His last start was a two inning stint at Beloit on July 21. He allowed two runs on two hits and took the loss. This is the first time Adkins will face the Rattlers or an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
