This gave me an idea...

Scary, I know.

After reading all of the Ryne Sandberg stories on the websites different Midwest League newspapers, including the one below from the South Bend Tribune the other day, I thought...well, really, I said, to myself: Someone should collect all of the Sandberg stories into one post and compare them....Just for kicks. Guess what the next project to get a mention here only to be forgotten until it's too late....Anyway, stop me if you've heard this one before...

No luxuries in minor leagues for ex-Cub great Sandberg

This might be Class A ball, and Ryne Sandberg might be a Cubbie blueblood above this sort of slumming, but he does not seek or receive any special treatment.

As manager of the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League, Sandberg works for everything he gets.

Take, for example, the four times he has been ejected this season -- twice his total in 16 years as a mild-mannered player. Those were not the itchy reactions of grandstanding young umpires anxious to toss a legend.

The click is worth it just for the picture that accompanies the story. Midwest League announcers and some front office workers will recognize the guy in the background.
