ABOUT SUNDAY: The Timber Rattlers were beaten 6-1 by the Quad Cities River Bandits in the final game of the four game series. Daniel Carroll, Calvin Beamon, and Alex Liddi each had two hits for the Timber Rattlers.
ROUGH THIRD: The Rattlers tied the game 1-1 with an RBI single by Beamon in the top of the third inning. But, Quad Cities got five consecutive hits with one out in the bottom of the third inning and scored three times to go up 4-1. A two-run double by Charlie Pelt broke the 1-1 tie.
PULLING AWAY: The River Bandits added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to account for the final score.
SPLITSVILLE! The Rattlers and Quad Cities split the four game series. They will meet again June 5-8 at Time Warner Cable Field.
STAYING HOT: Daniel Carroll and Gavin Dickey each have at least one hit in each of the first four games of the season. Carroll has a stolen base in four straight games, too.
ROSTER MOVES: The Seattle Mariners announced to roster moves today. Donnie Hume and Rob Harmon have been shifted to the Everett roster. Juan Ramirez and Edward Paredes, who traveled with the team to Quad Cities have been placed on the Timber Rattler roster. Hume and Harmon will stay with the Timber Rattlers and be re-activated on the Wisconsin roster before their next turn in the rotation.
LAST YEAR AT HOME: Tonight is the first home game of the season for the Timber Rattlers. In 2007, the team recorded a record of 26-42 on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
2007 OPENER: The Timber Rattlers lost 9-5 to the Peoria Chiefs in Ryne Sandberg’s managerial debut. Rattler starting pitcher Ricky Orta allowed seven first inning runs to be tagged with the loss.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Clinton LumberKings are the Midwest League affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Clinton went 70-67 in 2007 and made the Midwest League playoffs as the first half Western Division Wild Card. The LumberKings won their first round series, but lost in the Western Division Championship Series to the Beloit Snappers. The LumberKings are managed by Mike Micucci, who is in his second season with the L-Kings.
2007 SEASON SERIES: The Timber Rattlers were 5-3 against Clinton in 2007. Wisconsin was 2-2 at home against the LumberKings.
PROSPECTING: Baseball America’s Prospect handbook places four members of the Clinton LumberKing roster on their list of top 30 prospects in the Texas organization. Pitcher Neftali Feliz is the highest rated LumberKing on the list at #5. Outfielder Engel Beltre is next on the list at #10. Pitcher Fabio Castillo (#14) and outfielder Cristian Santana (#20) round out those on the list.
OUT OF THE DRAFT: There are seven LumberKing on the roster who were taken by the Rangers in the 2007 draft. Pitchers Josh Lueke (16th), Evan Reed (3rd), Ryan Tatusko (18th), and Ryan Turner (45th) are joined by infielders Jonathon Greene (8th) and Matt Lawson (14th), and outfielder Tim Smith (7th).
VETERANS: There are seven players who played in Clinton last season back to start 2008 with the LumberKings. Those players are: Ian Gac, David Paisano, Reed, Lueke, Julio Santana, Carlos Dominguez, Renny Osuna, and Smith.
CLINTON STARTING PITCHER: Jorge Quintero was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in 2005 by the Texas Rangers. He is making his first Midwest League start appearance tonight. In 2006, Quintero was 0-5 with a 5.45 ERA in 13 games (4 starts) for the Dominican Summer League team of the Rangers. Last year, Quintero was 0-1 with a 0.96 ERA in 12 appearances (three starts) for the Arizona League Rangers. He also made three appearances (two starts) for Bakersfield (California League) and was 0-2 with a 2.89ERA.
