Midwest League Action: Games of August 10, 2009

Complete scoreboard

Wisconsin 1 @Peoria 0: Rattlers version | Chiefs version

Beloit 7 @Cedar Rapids 5: “Yeah, it’s a rule,” Mosiello said. “He supposedly told him to get back in a couple of times, and he said (Amarista) told him no. It’s just that there’s a time when you’re an umpire that you’ve got to have a little judgment. When you’re making horrible calls, you’ve got to expect guys to be a little disturbed. So you’ve got to suck it up and say ‘You know what, I’ve got to let this go, because I’ve done a bad job to make him upset.’ You’ve got to have a little awareness.” Editor's Note: Click the link. I'll have more on this one later.

Dayton 6 @Lansing 2 (13 innings): Dragons version | Lugnuts version

@Great Lakes 7, West Michigan 4 (7 innings): "We're playing really well at home right now," said Bustabad, whose Loons have won 20 of their last 24 at Dow Diamond. " ... Things are just starting to go our way, and we're trying to hold our ground.

@Kane County 6, Clinton 4: The Kane County Cougars used two different rallies to beat the Clinton LumberKings, 6-4, Monday night. They scored twice in the sixth and four times in the eighth to grab the series finale in front of 35,272 at Elfstrom Stadium. (Editor's note: I may have added a number to the attendance of this game.)

@Burlington 7, Quad Cities 5:
"We had a good discussion today just talking about the desire to win," said Bees first baseman David Wood, who drove in four runs Monday. "We have to come out every day, every game and play with a passion. We're going to start doing a lot better at it."

"We had a long talk . . . about showing an urgency to win and leaving it all out on the field and thinking about nothing but what each player can do to help the team win," manager Jim Gabella said. "That's something we have to do the rest of the way. Every time they come out there they have to think about, 'how can I help this team win?'"
@South Bend 5, Fort Wayne 4: Former Notre Dame star A.J. Pollock triggered the South Bend attack with a double and a bases-loaded triple. Pollock lashed his three-run triple in the second inning to put the Silver Hawks on top, 3-1. "I love hitting in those situations," Pollock said. "It's not that much pressure. It's only the fourth inning. If I don't get that hit, it's not like we're going into the locker room, game over. It was a great situation for me to have a chance to get a hit and drive in some runs.

Automatic Strike = Dumbest rule in baseball.

If I remember correctly, Wisconsin lost a game to Dayton on the rule back in '07 on the final batter of the game. Even working with Dayton at the time, I thought that was the worst way ever to win a game.
