Rattler History July 2-10, 2002

Here is how the Timber Rattlers have fared from July 2 through July 10, 2002.

The July 2, 2002 game deserves a post all its own, but, here you go:

July 2: The Rattlers lost 8-3 to Michigan at home. This is not memorable for the score or the performances. But, it was memorable for what happened in the seventh and eighth innings. The Rattlers were down 8-0 when Jason Van Meetren hit a three-run homer in the seventh. The Battle Cats thought that Van Meetren was a bit of a hot dog rounding the bases in his typical sprint. So, Mike Burns, the Michigan starter, hit Sean Peless with the next pitch. Lanny Patten, a former hockey player out of Canada, threw the first pitch of the top of the eighth right at Trevor Mote. Then, Patten charged Mote and the entire Michigan bench. The most frightening thing was Emiliano Fruto climbing out of the stands and somehow getting his hands on a bat. Nothing happened, but it was a bit of a fine and a suspension for a guy who was supposed to be charting pitches in the stands.

July 3: The Rattler game with the Michigan was rained out.

July 4: Michigan swept a doubleheader from the Timber Rattlers at home. Michigan won game one 4-3. The Battle Cats won game two 5-3.

July 5: The Rattlers lost 2-0 at Peoria. Chris Duncan drove in the first run and scored the second run for the Chiefs. Fruto pitched seven innings, allowed one run, and took the loss.

July 6: The Rattlers lost 3-0 at Peoria.

July 7: The Rattlers lost 17-3 to Peoria at home. The Chiefs scored in every inning except the fourth and ninth. An eight spot in the sixth really put it away. Three solo homers accounted for Wisconsin's runs. Luis Cordova, Cip Garcia, and Antero Figueroa had the long balls.

July 8: Peoria beat the Rattlers 2-1 in Grand Chute. The chiefs scored a run in the top of the ninth to break a 1-1 tie.

July 9: The Rattlers were off for the Major League all-star game

July 10: The Rattlers were off for the Major League all-star game

Rattler Records after the game on July 10:

Second half: 2-16
Overall: 32-55
