@Dayton 6, Beloit 4:
Most people in the stands at Fifth Third Field on Saturday night, July 18, probably didn’t realize Beloit center fielder Aaron Hicks is considered the Minnesota Twins’ best minor-league prospect.@South Bend 7, Burlington 5: Isaias Asencio came up with an antidote to what has normally been poison for him at the plate.
They may have had some inkling in the third inning, when Hicks, Beloit’s leadoff batter, bombed the first pitch he saw in the inning over the right-field fence to tie the game at one.
But in the seventh, Hicks lost track of a long Byron Wiley drive that landed about 20 feet behind him at the base of the wall with the bases loaded and two out, scoring three on the way to a 6-4 Dayton Dragons victory.
@West Michigan 7, Kane County 1: A bad bullpen warmup session had West Michigan Whitecaps starting pitcher Mark Sorensen concerned Saturday night before he stepped on the mound to take on the Kane County Cougars. But once the game started, something clicked for the former Michigan State right-hander.
@Great Lakes 2, Cedar Rapids 1: Dominant pitching and two big swings of the bat carried the Great Lakes Loons to a fifth straight victory Saturday, a 2-1 nail-biter over the Cedar Rapids Kernels
@Fort Wayne 5, Quad Cities 0: Just how good was Osuna? In his six innings, three River Bandits reached base. Two got on after the ball squirted away on strikeouts.
