Midwest League Action: Games of July 23, 2009

Complete scoreboard

Dayton 4 @Wisconsin 1: The Rattlers saw their first two batters reach safely in the seventh and ninth innings but couldn’t score. They opened the seventh with successive walks, only to watch Dragons reliever Andrew Bowman retire the next three batters he faced, including the final two by strikeout. Wisconsin then opened the ninth with a single and walk, but Dayton closer Aguido Gonzalez fanned Michael Marseco and got Juan Sanchez to ground into a game-ending 5-4-3 double play on his way to his 11th save.

@Burlington 7, Great Lakes 3 (8 innings);
Great Lakes 2 @Burlington 0: As Jose Bonilla approached the throng of Bees at home plate, he took off his helmet and threw it in the air. His teammates mobbed him as Bonilla joyously jumped on home plate, making official a walk-off grand slam.

Fort Wayne 5 @Kane County 0: The Kane County offense only collected two hits, while striking out 15 times at the plate. The Cougars have not scored a run in 30 straight innings of play dating back to Monday in West Michigan.

@Beloit 8, Cedar Rapids 7:
The eighth inning of Thursday night’s game at Pohlman Field had it all for Danny Rams.

There was some good and some bad for the Beloit Snappers’ catcher.

The bad included three passed balls and an error in the top half of the inning as the Snappers blew a four-run lead to Cedar Rapids.

In the bottom half of the frame, Rams redeemed himself with a game-tying RBI double.
@Peoria 5, Lansing 0: After having a sacrifice-fly RBI in the second inning, Jovan Rosa had a three-run home run in the fourth to give the Chiefs a 4-0 lead.

@Clinton 11, South Bend 3: Kenn Kasparek says there’s a reason he’s having so much success on the pitchers mound: It’s the quality bullpen sessions he is having between starts.

West Michigan 6 @Quad Cities 2: Whitecaps version | River Bandits version
