Midwest League Action: Games of July 27, 2009

Complete scoreboard

@Peoria 2, Wisconsin 1: “I just wanted to go out there and pitch well.”

Lansing 10 @Beloit 1: Nelson Prada is running out of answers. And the Beloit Snappers are simply running out of time to salvage what has been a dreary 2009.

@Quad Cities 7, Great Lakes 5: In addition to packing their gear for the start of a six-game road trip today, the Quad-Cities River Bandits will take a four-game winning streak with them to South Bend.

@Kane County 3, Dayton 2: Cougars version | Dragons version

@Burlington 5, Fort Wayne 4:
Barry Bowden faced trouble in the eighth and ninth innings.

No one was warming up in the Burlington Bees' bullpen, because there was no available arm, outside of first baseman Juan Graterol, who was going to be the emergency reliever.

But there was no need for any help.
South Bend 6 @Cedar Rapids 5:
South Bend trailed 5-3 with one out, runners at first and second base and leadoff batter Reynaldo Navarro at the plate in its sixth inning. Navarro laid down a sacrifice bunt that advanced the runners to second and third. Alfredo Marte followed with a sinking liner down the left-field line for a two-run double that tied the game. A.J. Pollock, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ first-round draft pick this past June out of Notre Dame, followed a with a run-scoring triple that put South Bend ahead, 6-5.

Haley said he did not want Navarro to give himself up with a sacrifice bunt.

“I was hoping (Navarro) would understand I wanted him to drag, not sacrifice. But he got squared around a little too much,” Haley said. “So, from here on out in my coaching career I’m going to have a drag-bunt sign.”
@Clinton 3, West Michigan 2: LumberKings version | Whitecaps version
