Midwest League Action: Games of July 25, 2009

Complete scoreboard

@Peoria 9, Wisconsin 1: The Chiefs shelled Wisconsin starter Trey Watten for four runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Ryan Flaherty closed the inning’s scoring with a three-run home run off reliever Pedro Lambertus for a 9-1 advantage.

Dayton 4 @Kane County 2:
Dusty Coleman enjoyed an excellent view of the exclamation point on the Cougars' fifth-straight loss Saturday night.

Looking on from the on-deck circle, he claims he clearly saw something different than base umpire Allen Alvarez after Leonardo Gil skipped a ninth-inning grounder into the hole at shortstop.

"I thought it was a pretty tough situation to call that," Coleman said, "but I thought Leo was safe."

Gil threw his helmet and leapt into the air once the opposite call officially ended Kane County's comeback bid against Dayton. The Dragons' 4-2 victory extended the Cougars' season-high skid before 13,177 fans at Elfstrom Stadium.
@Quad Cities 5, Great Lakes 4 (11 innings): "Night and day," Bogany said, explaining the contrast between his start and finish. "The first three times up, I guess I was trying too hard. I was trying to muscle my swing and pull the ball over the fence in left. In my last two at-bats, I just tried to do what I could for the team."

@Burlington 3, Fort Wayne 2: Carvajal hit a ground ball toward Bees second baseman Fernando Garcia. Garcia snared the ball, then, while laying on the ground, flipped the ball to shortstop Antonio Jimenez. Jimenez stepped on the bag then fired the ball to David Wood at first. A double play that had the Community Field crowd on its feet, and secured the Bees' 3-2 Midwest League victory Saturday night.
