Adam Jones was a shortstop for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2004. On Tuesday, he helped the American League beat the National League 4-3 in the 2009 All-Star Game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.Click the link for details on the rest of the Appleton Baseball Alumns in the Midsummer Classic.
Jones, who is an outfielder for the Baltimore Orioles now, stepped to the plate with the scored tied 3-3 in the top of the eighth inning. Curtis Granderson tripled and Victor Martinez was intentionally walked with one out to put Jones in position to give the AL a win and run their unbeaten streak to 13 years in the Midsummer Classic.
Heath Bell got up 0-2 in the count, but Jones put the ball in play with a fly ball the warning track in right field. The ball was deep enough for Granderson to score what turned out to be the winning run without a play.
A place to follow the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League, Minor League baseball, Major League Baseball, and everything in between in that order.
