Tacoma (AAA – 6-4; 1st PCL Pacific Northern Division): Adam Jones (WI ’04) homered twice and knocked in three runs in Tacoma’s 9-5 win at Fresno. Renee Cortez worked 3-1/3 innings of relief and got the win. There was a bench clearing brawl in this game. Starter Jesse Foppert hit three batters (the third was a curve ball to the head of Eleizer Alfonzo). From Mike Curto's game story in the Tacoma News Tribune:
Fresno starter Brian Cooper (0-3) drilled Jose Morban on the first pitch of the next inning. Morban simply dropped the bat and headed for first base. As the umpires were warning both benches, Morban and Fresno first baseman Chad Santos got into a verbal altercation that quickly
turned to blows. The benches emptied, and a classic baseball brawl ensued in shallow right field. When the dust settled, Morban and Santos were ejected.
When play resumed, Choo went to the plate and hit the very first pitch from Cooper over the 400-foot sign in center field for a two-run homer, giving Tacoma a 5-2 lead.
San Antonio (AA – 5-6; T-2nd Texas League South Division): The Missions lost their fourth straight game, an 8-3 decision at Frisco. A four run bottom of the fifth inning put Frisco in front 7-1 and RoughRider starter John Danks struck out eight. Jon Nelson (WI ’03) drove in a run for San Antonio.
Inland Empire (High-A – 7-4 2nd California League South Division): Former Burlington Bee Brian McFall hit a two-run homer in the top of the twelfth inning and High Desert beat Inland Empire 7-5. Mike Wilson (WI ’05) had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the 66ers.
