That Was Easy

The first Rattler Alum of the Day is probably going to win this a lot this year.

David Ortiz ('96) was known as David Arias when he was a Timber Rattler. Yesterday, he helped the Red Sox beat Texas 7-3. Ortiz went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI.

Ortiz hit .322 with 18 homers and 93 RBI for the Timber Rattlers in 1996 and helped that team to the Midwest League Championship Series.

One other note about Ortiz: He is the subject of a biography written by Jeff Savage that is called David Ortiz (oddly, enough). It's a biography written for kids. We received a copy a few weeks ago and it reminded me of books about Johnny Miller, Phil & Tony Esposito, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and many other sports bios that I would check out of the library by the armful when I was younger.

If the Barnes & Noble search engine and my memory don't lie, those were part of a Mid-1970's series of books called Superstars.

Funny the stuff you remember.
