Game Notes for 8/15

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers beat the Chiefs 6-5. Chris Minaker had four hits and drove in three runs. Wisconsin rallied from a 4-2 deficit with a four run sixth inning. Minaker supplied a two-run homer to snap a 4-4 tie for the winning margin.

4-HIT CLUB: Minaker became the fifth Rattler to collect four hits in a game this season. Ron Garth has picked up four hits in one game three different times this season. Jeffery Dominguez, Jeff Flaig, and Robby Hudson are the other Rattlers who are members of that club this season.

ALSO WITH FOUR: Chief outfielder Jesus Valdez also had four hits last night. It was his second four hit game against Wisconsin this season.

AND THE WINNER IS: Cory Koliscak picked up his first Midwest League win last night. Koliscak pitched 1-1/3 innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits.

STILL PERFECT: Brian Kappel converted on his fourth save in four opportunities this season when he pitched a scoreless ninth inning last night.

GETTING THE LED OUT: Rattler DH Curt Ledbetter extended his season high hitting streak to five games with a fourth inning single last night. He is 7-for-14 (.500) during the current streak.

TWO IS A STREAK: The Rattlers won their final game against Beloit in their last homestand. The win last night gives the Rattlers two straight home victories. Including the current streak , Wisconsin has had five home winning streaks. The longest home win streak is four, a four game sweep of Clinton June 2-5.

TRIPLE TIME: Rattler outfielder Mike Saunders hit his eighth triple of the season last night. He is tied with three other players for fifth place on the Rattler single season list for triples. The Timber Rattler record for triples in a season is held by Jermaine Clark, who had 13 three base hits in 1998.

OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Todd Blackford was originally drafted by the Braves in the 13th round of the 2004 draft out of Triton High School in Bourbon, Indiana. He became a Cub after a trade sent Todd Hollandsworth to the Atlanta Braves in August of 2005. Blackford is 2-1 against the Rattlers this season. He is 2-0 and has not allowed a run in twelve innings at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers got to him for eight runs on seven hits over 3-1/3 innings at O’Brien Field on July 12. In his last start, Blackford gave up seven runs on ten hits over 3-1/3 innings for a loss at Kane County.
