The Midwest League released their
final offensive player of the week before the All-Star game. It's Ron Garth. And what a week he had:
.441 (15-34), 7 R, 5 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 2 BB, 6 SO, 3 SB, .765 SLG
After a horrendous May in which he hit just .185, Garth has heated up faster than the weather in June. The first baseman is hitting .358 in June, due largely to his performance last week. Garth had six two-hit games out of seven contests and launched his first two long balls of the season for a Timber Rattlers team that struggles to hit home runs. Garth had nine RBIs in a five-game set at Clinton, helping Wisconsin take four of five from the first-place LumberKings.
Neftali Feliz was pitcher of the week for the MWL.
0-0, 1.74 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 10.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 20 SO
Feliz didn't get a win last week, but it wasn't for lack of effort. The right-hander went five innings Monday against Kane County, giving up a run on four hits while striking out nine. He followed with an even better performance against Wisconsin Saturday, limiting the Timber Rattlers to a run on one hit while punching out 11. Feliz is a big reason why the LumberKings are in first place, as he's 5-2 on the year with a 2.24 ERA.
