Brief Game Notes for 8/11

For a less condensed version of today's game notes, go down to yesterday's post Game Notes for 8/10

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers and Kernels had their game postponed due to wet grounds. It will be made as part of a doubleheader tonight. This will be the sixth twin bill of the season for the Rattlers.

GAME ONE OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Anthony Ortega, the game one starter for the Kernels, was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela by the Angels in 2003. Ortega began the 2006 season with Rancho Cucamonga in the California League. Later in the season, he headed to Orem in the Pioneer League where he went 1-1 with a 0.79 ERA in two starts before being promoted to Cedar Rapids. In his last start, the Peoria Chiefs scored three runs on seven hits over seven innings at O’Brien Field and tagged Ortega with the loss.

GAME TWO OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Brok Butcher, the game two starter for the Kernels, was a 25th round pick of the Angels out of Oxnard (CA) Community College in the 2005 draft. He did not pitch professionally in 2005. Butcher started 2006 with the Kernels and got a win against the Rattlers on April 15 at Fox Cities Stadium. Butcher went down to the AZL Angels where he made four relief appearances and to Orem in the Pioneer League where he made one relief appearance before rejoining the Kernels in later July. He has made fourteen appearances (two starts) for Cedar Rapids this season. Tonight is his first start since a victory over Kane County on July 27.
