ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Snappers beat the Rattlers 3-2 in eleven innings. Tarrence Patterson scored on a wild pitch with one out in the eleventh inning to give Beloit the lead.
GETTING THE LED OUT: Rattler designated hitter Curtis Ledbetter drove in both Wisconsin runs last night. He homered in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game 1-1. Ledbetter tied the game 2-2 with two-out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
NO RBI: None of the Snapper runs last night resulted in an RBI. The first run scored on a balk. The second scored when the Rattlers committed two errors on the same play. The third run came in on the wild pitch in the eleventh.
EXTRA! EXTRA! The Rattlers are now 5-7 in extra innings this season. They are 0-2 in two extra inning games against the Snappers this season. Beloit is 11-5 in their extra inning games in 2006.
TOUGH LOSS: Rattler reliever Lance Beus saw his record drop to 0-4 with the loss last night. Patterson reached on a bunt single and took second on a throwing error. A sacrifice bunt got Patterson to third before the wild pitch scored him. On July 23, Beus also lost an extra inning game in Burlington when an unearned run scored.
ROSTER MOVE: Outfielder Alex Gary was sent to the Arizona League affiliate of the Mariners after last night’s game. Gary was hitting .163 with five homers and twelve RBI in 41 games for the Rattlers. Gary had struck out 64 times in 129 at bats for Wisconsin.
MEET THE NEW GUY: Gerardo Avila joins the Timber Rattlers today. The native of Venezuela was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2003 by the Mariners. He was tied for the Arizona League lead in homers with seven, ninth in the AZL in average at .326, and fourth in the AZL with 29 RBI.
OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Zach Ward started the 2006 season as the #13 prospect in the Cincinnati Red system. He began the year 7-0 with a 2.29 ERA for the Dayton Dragons, before he was traded to the Twins system for Kyle Lohse on July 31. His last start was his first start for the Snappers and it was against the Dragons at Pohlman Field. He gave up one hit over 5-2/3 innings with one walk and six strikeouts for the win. This is Ward’s first appearance against the Rattlers and his first appearance against an affiliate of the Mariners.
