Mariners: April 6, 1997

That three game losing streak for the '97 M's ended with an extra inning victory over the Red Sox at the Kingdome.

The Mariners trailed this game 5-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Jon Wasdin walked Joey Cora with one out in the inning and turned the game over to Pat Mahomes. The Mariners would score four times off three Red Sox relievers to take the lead. Mahomes and Vaughn Eshelman did not retire a batter.

Former Appleton Fox Alex Rodriguez started the rally with a single off Mahomes. Then, Vaughn Eshelman hit Ken Griffey with a pitch to load the bases. Out goes Eshelman, in comes Heathcliff Slocum. Edgar Martinez singled in two runs to tie the game. One out later, Paul Sorrento doubled in two more for a 7-5 lead.

But, the Sox rallied for two in the top of the ninth off Bobby Ayala and Norm Charlton to send the game to extras.

A-Rod started the tenth with a single and the M's eventually loaded the bases for Sorrento with one out. Sorrento singled and the M's won 8-7.

Seattle ends the day 2-3 in 3rd place and one game out in the AL West.
