Braves: April 28, 1957

The '57 Braves completed a three game sweep of the Cinicinnati Reds with a 3-2 win at Crosley Field on April 28.

Hank Aaron drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the third. The Reds tied the game in the bottom of the third when Frank Robinson grounded into a double play and Wally Post scored from third.

Milwaukee got a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Billy Bruton and Del Crandall had back-to-back doubles to get the first tally. Brave starting pitcher Taylor Phillips got his first major league hit with a bunt single. Danny O'Connell's sac fly scored Crandall for the 3-1 lead.

Phillips did not get out of the fourth inning though. He retired the first two batters, but walked the next two. Manager Fred Haney did not mess around. Phillips was out and Red Murff relieved.

Murff kept the Reds at bay until the ninth. He walked the leadoff batter and gave up a single to Johnny Temple. An error by O'Connell on a ball off the bat of Wally Post allowed the runner from third to score. Murff got out of the frame though. Gus Bell grounded into a force out and Robinson grounded into a game ending double play.

Murff picked up the win, his first major league victory.
