The '57 Milwaukee Braves lost their first game of the season on April 23. The Cubs needed extra innings, but they beat Milwaukee 3-2 in ten.
Milwaukee scored single runs in the second and third innings off Elmer Singleton. Billy Bruton singled in Johnny Logan and Bobby Thomson singled in Hank Aaron for a 2-0 lead. But, Singleton and three other Chicago pitchers combined to keep the Braves off the scoreboard.
The Cubs got on the board with an unearned run off Lew Burdette in the fifth. Gene Baker singled in Walt Moryn in the top of the sixth to tie the game.
Burdette still in the game for the top of the tenth and he gave up a leadoff homer to Cal Neeman.
In the bottom of the tenth, Eddie Matthews singled to start the inning. One out later, Thomson walked. A passed ball put the tying and winning runs in scoring position. Logan flew out to left for the second out. Bruton was walked intentionally to load the bases. But, Del Crandall popped out to end the game.

The loss put the Braves at 5-1. They are now in a tie with Brooklyn for first place.
The St. Louis Cardinals visit County Stadium to start a series on April 24.
