Brewers: April 22, 1982

Still no Robin Yount in the starting lineup, but with Mike Caldwell on the mound against the Toronto Blue Jays it didn't matter. Caldwell pitched a complete game four-hit shutout of the Jays on April 22, 1982 at County Stadium. Cecil Cooper and Ben Oglivie both homered in the 7-0 win for the Crew.

Cooper hit his blast with two out and nobody on in the first inning. Paul Molitor scored on an error after a single by Cooper in the bottom of the third.

Oglivie put the game out of reach with a two run home run in the bottom of the fifth. For good measure, the Brewers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. One came in on a wild pitch and two more scored on a Charlie Moore single.

Caldwell walked one and did not strike out a batter. He allowed two hits in the third, one hit in the fifth, and one hit in the seventh to get his first win of the year.

Complete box score and play-by-play are HERE.

The Brewers ended the day 5-6 and tied with the Yankees for fourth place in the AL East. Detroit leads the division and has a 2-1/2 game lead on the Crew.

The Rangers host the Brewers at Arlington Stadium on April 23.

Scheduled starters 4/23/07:
