Braves: April 27, 1957

The '57 Milwaukee Braves held on to beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 at Crosley Field on April 27. Lew Burdette was the leader with his arm and his bat.

It was Hank Aaron with a solo homer in the first to give Burdette a lead. In the second, Burdette singled in a run with two outs for a 2-0 advantage.

The Reds got to Burdette for a run in their half of the second with a George Crowe homer. Then, Cincy took a 3-2 lead with a pair of runs in the third. An infield single by Wally Post drove in the first run. An RBI single by Crowe made it 3-2. But Burdette, who gave up ten hits in the game, got out of a bases loaded, one out situation with an inning ending double play.

The Milwaukee offense responded with two runs in the top of the fourth to go back in front. Billy Bruton doubled in a run to tie the game. Burdette made it 4-3 Braves with a sacrifice fly.

The Braves got an insurance run in the top of the fifth on a Joe Adcock home run. It was the fifth of the season for the Brave first baseman.

In the ninth, the Reds rallied with two out and the bases empty. Frank Robinson doubled. Gus Bell singled him home to make the score 5-4. Post was next, but he grounded into a game-ending force out.
