Seattle trailed 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh. Rich Amaral singled in the tying run with two outs.
Derek Lowe made his major league debut for Seattle in relief. He entered in the sixth inning and kept the Jays off the board until the ninth.
Before getting to the game winning rally though, Seattle had two with two out in the top of the ninth against former University of Wisconsin pitcher Paul Quantrill. The ex-teammate of Rattler pitching coach Lance Painter ended the inning with Joey Cora grounding out.
In the bottom of the ninth, Lowe gave up a one out single to Otis Nixon. Nixon stole second and stayed there on an infield single by Carlos Garcia. Norm Charlton relieved Lowe to try and get the game to extra innings. Norm got Orlando Merced to fly out to left. But, Carter singled and Nixon made it across home with the winning run.
