June 14 Game Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Timber Rattlers swept a doubleheader from the Clinton LumberKings. Wisconsin won game one 7-5 in eight innings. The Rattlers took the nightcap 5-3.

GAME ONE RECAP: The LumberKings scored twice in the bottom of the first inning. Wisconsin scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Juan Diaz and a three-run homer by Gavin Dickey. Clinton tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Ron Garth hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth for a 7-4 Wisconsin lead. Justin Souza got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth.

GAME TWO RECAP: The LumberKings scored three times in the bottom of the second inning. The Rattlers rallied with a home run by Blake Ochoa in the third, a run on a wild pitch in the fourth, and three runs in the sixth. Alex Liddi’s RBI single broke a 3-3 tie. He scored moments later on an error. Rob Harmon pitched a scoreless seventh for his fifth save.

CLOUD NINE: Rattler starting pitcher Nathan Adcock pitched seven innings and struck out nine batters in the game. It was the third time this season Adcock has struck out nine batters in a game.

EASY AS A-B-C: The Rattlers held a 7-4 lead in game one, but the LumberKings scored a run and had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the eighth against Ryan Moorer. Souza relieved and got out of the inning with a strikeout, a popup, and a strikeout.

HEADING FOR THE LIGHT: The Rattlers ended a six-game road losing streak with their doubleheader sweep of the LumberKings.

HERE COMES THE BOOM: Wisconsin hit three homers in the doubleheader yesterday. They had hit three home runs in their previous six games.

IN A PINCH: Ochoa hit his pinch-hit homer in the third inning. It was the first pinch-hit home run by a Timber Rattlers since Reed Eastley hit one at Lansing on July 13, 2007.

COMEBACK CITY: The Rattlers recorded their eleventh and twelfth come-from-behind victories of the season yesterday. Wisconsin matched their largest comeback when they rallied from 3-0 down in game two.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Clinton LumberKings are the Midwest League affiliate of the Texas Rangers. They are 40-24 and currently in first place in the Midwest League Western Division. The LumberKings have clinched a first half playoff spot and currently lead the second place Kane County Cougars by 2.0 games. Clinton is 21-12 at home this season. Their magic number to clinch the division title is one.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The Timber Rattlers are hitting .239 as a team and have scored 218 runs (3.5/game). Wisconsin has hit 18 home runs this season. The Timber Rattler pitching staff has a combined ERA of 3.46. The LumberKings are hitting .280 as a team to lead the League in that category. They have scored 348 runs (5.4/game). Clinton has hit 48 home runs this season. The LumberKings pitching staff has a combined ERA of 3.51.

WHOA! The LumberKings have four of the top ten hitters in the Midwest League. Renny Osuna is second in the league at .364. Mitch Moreland (.317), Ian Gac (.313), and Tim Smith (.304) are in 4th, 5th, and 10th place respectively. Gac leads the Midwest League in homers (17) and RBI (52). Pitcher Kennil Gomez is tied for the league lead in wins with eighth and Neftali Feliz is fifth in the league in strikeouts with 72.

2007 SEASON SERIES: The Rattlers won the season series with the LumberKings last season. Wisconsin was 5-3 against Clinton in 2007. They were 3-1 at Alliant Energy Field last year.

2008 SEASON SERIES: The Rattlers lead the season series 2-1. LumberKings won the only game played between the teams at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium this season. Clinton won 8-1 on April 7. The next three games were either rained out or snowed out.

GAME ONE CLINTON STARTING PITCHER: Neftali Feliz was originally signed by the Atlanta Braves as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2005. He started 2007 with Danville in Appalachian League and was 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA in eight appearances (seven starts). He joined the Rangers organization along with Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, and Beau Jones, in a July 31 trade. Feliz is rated as the #5 prospect in the Texas organization. He made eight appearances (one start) for Spokane in the Northwest League. Feliz made one relief appearance against the Everett Aquasox, Seattle’s Northwest League affiliate, last season. He pitched 1-1/3 scoreless innings of relief with a walk, two hits, and four strikeouts. In his start prior to this afternoon, Feliz

GAME TWO CLINTON STARTING PITCHER: Ben Henry was the 30th round pick of the Texas Rangers out of Loris (SC) High School in the 2007 draft. He was 0-4 with a 7.07ERA in 10 games (six starts) with 29 strikeouts and 17 walks over 28 innings for the Arizona League affiliate of the Rangers. He made two appearances (both starts) against the Arizona League affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. He tossed a total of seven innings and allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Tonight will be his Midwest League debut.
