Brewers: April 13, 1982

The '82 Brewers needed extra innings, but they beat the Cleveland Indians at Municipal Stadium on April 13.

The Crew got out to an early lead against a former teammate. Larry Sorenson issued a bases loaded walk to Gorman Thomas in the first inning. But, the Indians scored twice in the bottom of the first off Randy Lerch. Mike Hargrove's sacrifice fly and Joe Charboneau's RBI single made it 2-1.

Then, the Brewer bats got going again. Robin Yount homered in the second and later in the inning, Ted Simmons had a two run double. Yount doubled and scored on a Jim Gantner single in the third for a 5-2 lead. But, the Indians scored twice in the bottom of the third.

Then, Milwaukee got three more runs in the top of the fourth off Rick Sutcliffe. A two-run double by Thomas and a two-run single for Yount made it 8-4.

Then, the Indians charged back and tied the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Both runs in the seventh were charged to Dwight Bernard, but the tying run scored on a single by pinch hitter Von Hayes off Rollie Fingers.

The game stayed tied 8-8 until the tenth. Paul Molitor tripled with one out and scored on a Charlie Moore single.

Fingers, who pitched 3-1/3 innings in the game, got the final three outs for the win and the Brewers moved their record to 3-1.

Interesting thing about this game. Yount was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. But, after his two-run single in the fourth, Eddie Romero pinch ran for him. I hope the Robin is okay. The Brewers will really need him this season.
