The '97 Mariners picked up their fourth consecutive win on April 12. The victory was also their second extra-inning win in two tries that season.
Boston scored in the very first inning off Jeff Fassero. Mike Stanley's sacrifice fly put the Sox in front. In that inning, Fassero gave up a walk, a run, and a hit. Over the next eight, he allowed just one more hit, one more walk, and no more runs.
The M's got to Jon Wasdin to tie the game in the top of the third. Alex Rodriguez came through with a two-out, RBI double to score Russ Davis.
Wasdin matched Fassero through the seventh. The Sox bullpen kept the game tied 1-1 until the top of the tenth.
Dan Wilson doubled off Jim Corsi to start the inning. Davis dropped a sac bunt and Corsi threw it away allowing Wilson to score the go ahead run. Corsi promptly loaded the bases for A-Rod, who singled in a run. Pat Mahomes came in and hit Ken Griffey with a pitch to force in a run. The final run of the inning came in on a sac fly by Edgar Martinez.
Norm Charlton pitched a perfect bottom of the tenth and the Mariners were 6-4. That record put them just 1/2 game back in the AL West.
